Cookie Policy
Last updated: 16 September 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how GorilloBuild uses cookies and similar browser storage, and the choices you have. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
In simple words
A short, plain version for anyone who wants the quick idea. The full policy below is the exact one that counts.
- Cookies are tiny files a website keeps in your browser. We only use a few.
- Some are essential - they keep you signed in and make the site work, so they always run.
- We only measure how the site is used (analytics) if you tap Accept on the banner. Until then it's completely off.
- We do not use ads or tracking to build a profile of you.
- You can change your mind any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, which brings the choice back.
If you're under 13, a parent or guardian looks after your account. If anything here is confusing, ask them, and they can email us at contact@gorillobuild.com.
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. "Similar technologies" include things like local storage, which lets a site remember information on your device. They are used to keep you signed in, remember your choices, and (with your consent) understand how the site is used. Some are deleted when you close your browser; others remain until they expire or you clear them.
2. How We Use Cookies
We use them for two purposes only: to make the site work (essential), and, once you agree, to measure how the site is used so we can improve it (analytics). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies to build a marketing profile of you.
3. Types We Use
Strictly necessary (always on). These are needed for the site to function and do not require consent:
- your sign-in session (so you stay logged in), set by our authentication provider;
- your cookie choice itself (so we don't ask again on every page);
- small preferences such as your selected currency, your country for showing local prices, and whether you've dismissed a banner;
- checkout and payment: when you open checkout or update a card, our payment provider Paddle stores what it needs to take the payment securely and prevent fraud.
These are mostly stored in your browser's local storage and last until they expire or you clear your browser data.
Analytics (only after you accept). If you accept, Google Analytics 4 sets cookies (for example _ga and _ga_<id>) to measure visits and usage. These typically last up to about two years. If you reject, these are never set.
If you accept, Microsoft Clarity also sets cookies (for example _clck, which lasts up to a year, and _clsk, which lasts a day) so it can make heatmaps and recordings of how pages are used. Recordings hide the text on the page and anything you type. Clarity is not used on the 3D guides, the village maps, the Village Planner, or the account, admin and password pages. If you reject, none of these are set.
On a parent-managed (under-13) account, analytics and Clarity stay off even if the banner has been accepted on that device. Our error monitoring (Sentry) does not set cookies.
4. Analytics and Consent Mode
We use Google Analytics 4 with Google Consent Mode v2. When you first visit, all consent types (analytics and advertising storage) default to denied, and Google Analytics is loaded in that denied state, so it sets no analytics cookies and sends no data until you make a choice. Only when you click Accept is analytics storage granted and measurement begins. If you click Reject, analytics stays fully off.
Microsoft Clarity is not loaded at all until you click Accept. It is told that advertising storage is denied, and it is never loaded for parent-managed accounts.
5. Your Choices
When you first visit, the banner lets you accept all optional cookies, reject them all, or choose with Customise. There are two optional kinds, each with its own switch: Analytics (Google Analytics) and Recordings (Microsoft Clarity). Both start switched off.
You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page, or with the button below. Switching something off stops it straight away and removes its cookies.
6. Managing Cookies in Your Browser
Most browsers let you view, block and delete cookies and local storage through their settings (usually under "Privacy" or "Site settings"). You can also install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, and read how Microsoft handles Clarity data in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Blocking strictly necessary items may stop parts of the site (such as staying signed in) from working properly.
7. Third-Party Cookies
Where you accept analytics, Google sets the cookies described above, see Google's cookie information and Privacy Policy. Providers we rely on for core functionality, such as our payment provider (Paddle) and authentication (Supabase), may also set functional cookies as part of secure sign-in and checkout. If you connect a third-party account (Google, Discord or Patreon), those services operate under their own cookie and privacy policies. We only work with established providers that publish their own privacy and cookie information, which we encourage you to review; we are not responsible for how these third parties use cookies on their own services.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for legal or operational reasons. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and show a notice on the site. Where a change affects analytics or other non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent again through the cookie banner before those cookies are set. We encourage you to review this page from time to time.
9. Governing Law
This Cookie Policy forms part of our Terms of Service and is governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes are subject to the courts of England and Wales. This does not affect any mandatory data-protection or consumer rights you have where you live.
